1941 - what's the point?
Go away with England and won't see a minutes action. Will come back deflated and we will pay the price.
Hodgson won't play him. Wouldn't have the balls to put Downing central and Sterling wide. So why go?
Time for players to make themselves unavailable for England and concentrate on club football.
The select few start no matter what and people like Downing wait for 18 injuries to get a chance in a competitive match.
As I stated, we get back a player who is down in the dumps.
Say no to England. Your country doesn't need you.

Re: Stewart Downing - what's the point?
Well first and foremost, imo International football is important. And you need to have your best players in the squad both on the pitch and on the bench. Downing was deemed to be one of them.

I don't think he would be deflated. I would have thought he would be more confident having being recognised and playing and meeting up with better players.

The saying birds of a feather, flock together rains true.

Re: Stewart Downing - what's the point?
Your first sentence is incorrect though.

He's gone away with England and he will see a minutes action.

Being called up will be a great confidence bossy for him.

Re: Stewart Downing - what's the point?
If he plays against Scotland he will be even more deflated when he comes back.

'you won't ever play in a proper match but here you go, have a runaround with the other rejects'.

Disgraceful treatment.
